Koh-GoKahn

The Tankins have been building spelljamming ships for centuries. Some of their original ships were designed with their religion in mind. The ships were built in conical fashion to please the gods and assure them that Tankin’s would not forget their origins and would return to the ground from which they came. Such religious notions are ancient history now days, but the Tankin’s still have a deep appreciation for the look of some of their original ships. So much so that they still build new ships in their image and style, though with much newer materials, construction, and weaponry.

Koh-GoKahn literally translated means “Robust Ship.” The Tankins seem to take pride in their adjectives and only use them when they think they are precisely appropriate. Robust may seem like a simple description to a human, but the ship is the embodiment of the word to the Tankins. Koh-GoKahns are mid sized ships. They are a mixed purpose ship that can carry some cargo, has some passenger suits, has enough weapons to be an escort, and even gets called into service as a tug from time to time. The hull is made of sturdy Kippinner wood that grows only on Minna Gogog. (Saves as Thick Wood without all the extra bulk and wasted space.) The lower cone shaped hulls are sheathed in metal. Though they are not designed to ram, many a Tankin captain has maneuvered his ship to crash down on the deck of an enemy ship, crushing right through their main deck, and providing easy boarding for his crew at the same time.

The ship is heavily armed for its size. Standard compliments include a Medium Ballista, Medium Catapult, and four Light Ballistae. Different captains will switch the weaponry around as they see fit. Some even remove all the weaponry from the fore deck and place one Large Ballista in their place. Koh-GoKahns equipped with cannons are uncommon as the Tankins like to stick with the solid, well designed weapons they have learned to use to their utmost effectiveness. Whatever arrangement is chosen, the crew members have a wonderfully open firing arcs on the large deck and high tower.

A favorite tactic of the Launchers is to lie in wait outside a shipping lane out of site, or perhaps behind an asteroid or some other form of debris. They then quickly maneuver into place, and fire their Dart rockets from a far distance. While the vessel under attack deals with the undead threat now onboard their ship, the Launcher or an accompanying ship will pull up next to the vessel and unleash a horde of undead soldiers to kill everything in site and take the ship.
